The recipe shown below in the photo of the old bottle of Myers’s Rum may be more accurate, but not in the sense of “the original Planter’s Punch specifically called for Myers’s.”
Planter’s Punch predates branded bottlings and early “original” formulations were generally described generically as rum + citrus + sugar (often summarized by the “one of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak” rhyme), not a specific named rum brand.
That said, Myers’s Rum did later market a product labeled for the drink (often referred to as “Myers’s Planter’s Punch Rum”), and multiple modern accounts credit Myers’s with helping popularize the cocktail via that branded rum. For example, Liquor.com notes that “several accounts credit the Planter’s Punch to Myers’s Rum” and that the brand “sold a Planter’s Punch Rum to be used specifically in the cocktail,” which helped popularize the recipe see: https://www.liquor.com/recipes/planters-punch/

MNEMONIC: Think “MopS Grenadine”
(Myers, OJ, Pineapple, Sour, and Grenadine)
Notice that the M&S are upper case, and the o&p are lower case. That’s because the OJ and Pineapple are only 1/2 oz., and the Myers’s and Sour are both over an ounce.
